There are many important skills required to play Team Fortress 2 at a high level, but one of these is often forgotten, or not concentrated on so much, even though its importance is extreme when trying to organise teamplay, and even normal fragging becomes easier.
The skill I’m talking about is general communication. Using a program like Mumble or Ventrilo is a vital step to taking your team up to a whole new tier of playing, and all experienced team leaders would expect you to understand this as well. Its vital for any wizard-medic to be able to help his team in every way he can, and one such way is to call things that the main team doesnt get time to aim at. The good medics will call it calmly and quickly, giving the details as soon as possible, stating “where what and why”, and leaving unnecessary information out. If a scout has come from behind, they will calmly tell their Soldier as such, allowing the Soldier to concentrate on then killing him. Screaming “Scout ScoutScout ScoutScout Scout” over and over will make his job harder, as in game sound can give that little bit of help to the Soldier to target the enemy before he kills you. Screaming and panicking will make the Soldier panic, which can only lead to deaths on your team.
Leave Comms Open! So what if an enemy demoman killed you and it frustrated you. The only thing your team cares to hear for then after is where he is, and what he’s doing now. If he is re-stickying an area, and you start a mini-rage on mumble, any of your teammates could run through and give a demo another free frag, not hearing the stickies being planted, or you calling that they should stop and wait. Also, nobody wants to hear you rant about overpowered/bullshit, expecially when there is probably someone playing the class you are complaining about, on your team.

Good advice
Would like to hear a recording of mumble of a top team. There’s not much places you can really learn any comms (pickups are horrible most of the time for comms).

As of late I just mute myself in mumble as it doesnt matter what i say, i die a lot anyway. communication is overrated.
So far we can confirm the following communications within the top teams :-
TmG: Dunc screaming like he would when his beloved newcastle goes a goal down to sunderland
TCM: Byte telling you EXACTLY what to do, including keypresses (<3)
Dignitas: Nothing, finnish emo
CC: Nothing, finnish emo
wotr: No idea, probably some norweigan mumble which equates to “Theres a scout, scout, scout, scout” 😀
Imperial: Read the column! 😀
nVs: At a guess, josh, appz, nvc freestyling, with abom and albert telling them to stfu over and over
Vale: mainly numlocked going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on, a bit like his mobile phone forum fun.
just go over the tactics on mirc and make sure everybody understands that shit and you don’t need mumble.
also somebody who knows some h4x0r programming stuff please make a new version of mumble with recording. it’s open source so off you go chop chop.
Mumble needs a volume feature, so you dont have to keep tweaking windows and game sound all the time 🙁
