Latest on the New Weapons Content

Robin Walker, the big man involved with everything TF2, has done an interview that is currently on Shacknews’ front page, outlining some features of the mysterious system added but not finished into the game. Some cold hard facts, and some conjecture is being thrown about in this thread, mainly in the original post, that can give you a strong indication of the close and distant future for the Backpack.

The interview provides a variety of information, but most importantly is that before or during the Sniper Update, all classes will be able to equip headslots, that can give players the ability to customise their appearance slightly, and beyond that will be able to change key components of the class that promote the idea of trade-offs within the game. Some examples could be adding in max-health bonuses, but at the cost of reload speed, or imagine a flamethrower that can slow people down, but deals less damage.

Also, some good news for the 270 players that had deleted their items, or had other people delete their items for them is that the harsh wording in the update page was simply to discourage players from deleting items; you will be able to re-earn them at a later date.

The big intention behind all this is to separate out achievements from unlockables, as Valve feels the community wants to earn achievements for fun on the side, but have the weapons to mess around with, without adding a feeling of grind.

“While we don’t think this update adds any new issues for competitive play, we are aware of the desire for leagues to control what their players are using, so we’re thinking about how we can help them do that. Still, we’re optimistic as ever. We believe that the more interesting & viable choices available to competitive players, the more depth there is for them to use to their advantage. It’d be a shame if they’re prevented from exploring the strategic possibilities that the new items add.”

lol stop hating! I assume they will create a promod type system which will allow everyone to take what they enjoy from the game to the competitive leagues!

Sounds not too bad from what you wrote… We’ll have to see how it turns out though.

Pretty hefty update last night, no idea of the size, but it seems too big to be the bug fixes shown in the news section here: http://store.steampowered.com/news/2470/

Perhaps ninja so that the “big” update doesnt take so long to download?
They also added:

// TF2 MMO
“TF_MMO_LFG” “Looking For Group”
“TF_MMO_Quest1” “You must kill %s1 %s2 to complete this quest.”
“TF_MMO_Monster1” “Boars”
“TF_MMO_Monster2” “Rats”
“TF_MMO_Monster3” “Bats”
“TF_MMO_Monster4” “Wolves”
“TF_MMO_Monster5” “Spiders”

to the GCFs

Just hurry up ffs Valve.

“Robin Walker: Nope, we’re not done yet. There’s still the Pyro, Medic, and Spy to go. We’ve saved the best for last!”

Its been a 1½ year since the release of the game…?!

Show me the other FPS games that have as much DLC and regular updates as this one…
Games like counterstrike have none of this extra stuff, and they have been out for a very long time :/

1 1/2 years isnt that much tbh, if you look at the extra content we’ve gotten in that time compared to other valve games.
