A SniPerY update

Some odd things happened last night after the release of the day 3 information (or so has been claimed by many sources).

Day 3 reveals a shield deliberately designed to counter spies who attempt to backstab snipers, by shocking them on hit, overheating the knife, and breaking the shield.

The background again reveals small pieces of information, but the most surprising and strange activity is the one with the Spy. He is dead, or appears to be. So what is going on here? Also here.

This is claimed to be the update page for a short time last night, with a second appearance from the spy in the same position.

The obvious and quick response is that there is a plan to give the Spy a golden watch (see his left hand in the original picture) that allows him to feign death. Is it possible that the Sniper update and the Spy update are arriving together (something which hasn’t happened before, but has never been said to not happen). Some facts we know: all updates are intended to be ported to the 360, so Valve may be hoping to get as much in that pack as they can. They have never denied the spy update coming (and many forum users heckled the pre-release of the Scout update to actually be the Spy update in disguise), simply saying that “The next class pack will focus on the Sniper”, not denying that possibilty of a spy update itself.

Of course all this hype could amount to nothing but Valve hoping to get as much interest as possible, as this is now their biggest way of making sales. The class updates and free weekends have already shown to be extremely successful. Hopefully all will be revealed soon.
