Massive TF2 Update Including Demoman Nerf
So all of a sudden it happened. What everyone feared and hoped for: A demoman nerf update.
The update was released last night and contains many interesting changes that very well might affect the competitive gameplay. Here we will go through everything in more detail.
If you kill a medic that has 100% uber/kritz there will be some particles around the corpse

Any weapons that fire bullets (shotguns, sniper’s machine gun, heavy’s minigun, etc.) can now break apart the Demoman’s stickybombs
When you fire at a sticky with a shotgun or similar (melee works too) it will break apart. You cannot do it while the sticky is flying in the air. If you pick up the broken parts of the sticky, you will get full ammo.

The Engineer’s dispensers can now be upgraded to level three. It will give out metal and heal faster as it is upgraded
You can now upgrade your dispenser just like with your sentry. It takes 200 metal to upgrade it one level. At Level 3 it will heal 100 hp in 5 seconds. Maybe even more clans will begin to use engineer on gravelpit and turbine?

The Engineer’s teleporters can now be upgraded to level three. It will recharge faster the higher level it is
You can now upgrade your teleporter just like with your sentry. It takes 200 metal to upgrade it one level. A level 1 teleporter takes 10 seconds to recharge. A level 3 teleporter takes 3 seconds.

Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground or from health cabinets
Furthermore you will also recharge your cloak-meter from (friendly/enemy) dispensers.
The icon on the HUD for a person calling for Medic will now give more information to the medic (if the target is low on health, on fire, etc.)
When your team mates are on fire or are extremely low health, you will be able to see it when they call for medic.

There is now a custom icon for death messages when the player was killed from a critical hit
When someone gets killed by a critical hit, there will be a slight glow around the weapon in the death message.

Players will now have some particles swirling around them so other players can see when they are overhealed
When a player is overhealed he will have small crosses floating around him.

Added an achievement tracker that will allow people to choose specific achievements that they are trying to get
You can track certain achievements of your own choice. They will be shown in the top left of your screen when you play the class the achievements belong to.
Some changes to the second part of the first stage of Goldrush to give the attackers more of an advantage
Added a new particle effect for when a player enters the water

Added smoke to the feet of a rocket jumping soldier
When a soldier or demoman rocket/sticky jumps, his feet will be on fire and there will be smoke trails beneath him.

All in all a very interesting update for the competitive TF2 community, especially regarding the demo & engineer updates. Demomen might not like it, though. On the Steam Forums people are already demanding to get the nerf removed. Take part in the discussion if you dare. 😉
In other news, the Official TF2 Blog has been updated. They state that the next class pack will be Scout, and that they will indeed be bringing some of the improvements from the Left4Dead engine to TF2, although not all as they want to keep DirectX 8 compatibility.

imo it’s not that big demo nerf 😮

Not that much of a problem for most good demo’s I think, as they seem to detonate most stickies quite quickly (and mid air).
This nerf just makes it harder to block off certain points.
what xtala said
“The next class pack will be the Scout.”
FUCK YEAH
Great job of valve there tbh. I would have been pretty angry if they stole me 4 stickies or something.
Can someone tell me if old demos are still working? Dont have the possibiltiy to test it atm.
I just checked a 3 month old turbine demo (where someone played engineer) and it worked just fine. 🙂 Goldrush demos probably don’t work though.
nice article as usual f2 ;x
only scared about the scout being next… The medic update brought in some diversity, but almost every clan plays 2x scout, so this will REALLY affect the 6v6 gameplay… and i dont want to get “1-shotted” now 😀
This isn’t the demo nerf VALVe were talking about.
Good update i think so far
Falling im 85% sure it is the nerf they were talking about; they wanted to stop demomen from killing sentries so easily, and that is what they have done. Now the three stickies required will need to be placed rather sneakily or that engi will be stopping you quicksharp (and for massive metal).
Unfortunently I can’t play the new update but i imagine the demoman see’s when any of his mines are exploded – I havnt seen anyone talking about how to use that yet. After all what scout would resist busting some mines in his way for that bit of safety and ammo, The other team can be miles away and still know its breeched.
The games tactics are just going quadruple in size by the time their done these updates 🙁 I’m jealous!
They also stated in their post where they called stickies “winbombs” that they were aware that they were doing too much damage to people, thats why im pretty sure its not finished yet.
Will be interesting on cp_well where stickies are a key part of attempting to hold point 2
can easily get around it shi, i have been doing it since i started tf2 ;D
Good update imo
Falling Away, no, VALVe said in an interview they don’t want to change damage values.
meeeeh well they did change something, I sticky bomb can do over 160 points of damage if it detonates right under your feet. Not so fun. And long range solly spam seems to be doing more dmg too :/
“There is a SPAH with infinite cloak on MAH DISPENS0R!”
